Alec Manoah was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained UCL in his right elbow. Alec Manoah Everyone knew something was wrong when Manoah left the game in the bottom of the second inning of Wednesday’s series finale at Chicago. As soon as the Blue Jays arrived in Toronto, Manoah underwent an MRI and was diagnosed with a right UCL sprain.
The 26-year-old Manoah plans to get a second opinion on his elbow injury and will likely be out for an “extended period of time.” He said he first felt discomfort in his elbow after the team’s last game against the Detroit Tigers.

“I felt it after my start in Detroit and I tried to work as hard as I could with the training staff this week,” Manoah said after the game in Chicago. “I did some bullpen stuff a couple days ago and felt pretty good. I felt like I could go out there and compete and give the team a chance and I just wasn’t able to do that.”
Manager John Schneider said Manoa will be examined in person next Thursday by renowned surgeon Dr. Keith Meister, head team physician for the Texas Rangers and one of baseball’s leading orthopedic surgeons.

The injury mars a promising bounce-back season for the former Blue Jays ace. After finishing third in Cy Young Award voting and starting in the All-Star Game in 2022, Manoah had a terrible 2023 season. His ERA jumped to 5.87. His slump was so bad that Toronto sent Manoah to rookie league play to try to get him back on track. He began a minor league rehab assignment this season after experiencing shoulder inflammation in spring training.
Manoah made his season debut on May 5, allowing seven runs (six earned) in four innings. In five starts, he had a 3.70 ERA with 26 strikeouts and eight walks.
With Manoah out until midseason, Toronto acquired a minor league relief pitcher. Ryan Barr Former Phillies pitcher. Right-handed pitcher. Beauden FrancisFrancis, who began the season in the starting rotation while Manoah was sidelined, is currently on a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo after being sidelined for the last month with forearm tendinitis.
Until all information is gathered, the Blue Jays cannot make a final determination of the severity of Alec Manoah’s injury or a timeline for his return.
