After retiring as one of the most acclaimed and famous tennis players of all time, the 42-year-old mother-of-two founded a cosmetics brand, Win Beauty by Serena Williams, and continued her career off the court. I’m looking at you.

Win Beauty, which includes eyeliner, lipstick and concealer formulated with vegan ingredients and minimal chemicals, is one of Williams’ first forays outside of tennis. She also heads her venture fund, Serena Ventures, which invests in businesses such as financial technology that are primarily started by women and people of color. Product prices range from her 18 USD to her 29 USD.

Mr Williams said: Penta We talk about her new brand, which launches on Sunday, the lessons she learned through its creation, and how tennis still plays a role in her life.

Why did you decide to try makeup?

This project started several years before the coronavirus. I was playing tennis nonstop and thinking about how to present myself on the court. I love makeup and have tried every brand, but I also love makeup because of my active lifestyle, which includes playing for hours on the court, running errands all day on non-work days, and spending time with my two children. I needed something for that. Wyn is durable and designed for an active lifestyle that includes sweating and daily life.

What do you think is missing in this space and how is Wynn trying to fill that gap?

There are many products out there, but few are as multi-functional as lip tints and cheek tints. Also, some of our products are simple, while others are ornate. Plus, you can mix it with other makeup like I did. Not everything you use says he has to be WynYN.

What lessons did you learn as an entrepreneur through the process of launching your brand?

Don’t rush things. It took me a long time to find ingredients that were clean but still worked the way I wanted them to. It was longer than I expected. But I’ve also learned not to introduce a brand or make people spend money until I’m satisfied with it. I don’t want to sell something I won’t buy.

Is there anything you wish you had done differently?

I had been looking at this opportunity for a long time and wish I had started sooner.

Your sister Venus is a business person herself and has several projects and businesses. What did she teach you?

Venus is incredibly thorough and always shows up at the office to do her job. She taught me that to be successful, you have to be very hands-on and actively involved, and she should never leave it to others.

Please tell us about your life after tennis. How do you spend your days?

My days are packed to the max. Her older daughter wakes me up and I take her to her school. I have a newborn and it takes up a lot of my time. And I get a lot of work calls every day for different projects.

What is your secret to balancing career, personal life, and parenting?

If there is, you need to know it. Still do not know.

do you still play tennis? What other sports do you enjoy or how do you stay in shape?

Yes, I go to the court once or twice a week. I love tournaments so much that I try not to play them too often for fear of going back to the tournament circuit. I also run and walk.

Where do you run to?

To be honest, it’s not. I haven’t had a vacation this long. I recently started getting massages, which is a kind of escape.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Please put on your face mask first before helping others. I’m forever going to do something, but not for myself.
