On March 25, the Stony Brook University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) successfully concluded a three-week program called “Build Your Success,” which provided tailored guidelines and support for Latino entrepreneurs. The event was hosted at the Brentwood Public Library and sponsored by M&T Bank.
This intensive training program is designed to empower minority business owners and increase their understanding of opportunities in New York’s growing construction market. The program focused on important aspects of the construction industry, including knowledge of labor law, the different types of insurance needed, and how to access government contracts. 40 participants from a variety of companies received answers to key questions in the field, gained practical insights and knowledge from 9 business experts, and provided a number of guides to help them understand what they had gathered. I was able to participate in an interactive exercise.
SBDC continues to develop and support Spanish-language programs for Long Island’s Latino entrepreneurial community. The goal of this ongoing effort is to provide executives with the knowledge and skills they need to take their companies to the next level and seize opportunities in today’s business environment.
The Build Your Success program was the first of its kind in the construction sector.
