Wall Street is also likely to be closed when there is a major holiday. In 2024, the stock market will have 10 days off, plus 3 early trading sessions. Many stock market holidays are also federal and bank holidays.

Is the stock market open today?

Regular business hours for the U.S. stock market are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The two major U.S. stock exchanges, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Nasdaq, each observe these trading hours. Both stock exchanges are closed on weekends. Although it is possible to place orders to buy or sell stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) during extended trading hours, it tends to be riskier than trading during regular market hours.
