Sofitel Hotels’ finest property in Southeast Asia, Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit, recently received its first Green Globe certification. Located in the heart of downtown Bangkok’s bustling Sukhumvit district, this 32-storey Art Deco hotel embodies French sophistication.
Despite this recent recognition, the hotel has been proactive in embracing environmentally sustainable practices, including the implementation of smart room technology that manages the HVAC system in real time to increase operational efficiency and precision.
David Talbot, Hotel Manager “We are extremely proud that our hotel has achieved Green Globe certification for the first time, which demonstrates our commitment to implementing sustainable practices in all departments of our hotel. All staff at Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit are committed to our sustainability efforts and look forward to further engaging with the local community in the future.”
The hotel has also seen a dramatic reduction in food waste by 20% with the implementation of the Winnow system, which helps kitchen staff track and analyze waste, helping chefs refine the all-day restaurant’s menus to reduce waste in the future.

The effort to eliminate single-use plastic amenities continues with soap dispensers being installed in both public and private restrooms, and in rooms where traditional soap is still provided, the remains are collected and donated to the Soap for Hope initiative, where they are recycled and distributed to communities in need.
The hotel’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its efforts at reuse: After a recent renovation, much of the furniture has been remade rather than replaced, tables have been restored, chairs have been repainted and a policy of returning reusable seafood containers to suppliers has been instituted to minimize waste.
Additionally, the hotel is installing new water filtration systems and hydration stations for guests and staff and is eliminating the use of plastic water bottles.
