Women Entrepreneurs Platform (WEP) and TransUnion CIBIL have launched SEHER, a credit education programme aimed at supporting women entrepreneurs in India.
The initiative was announced on Friday with the aim of improving financial literacy and business skills among female business owners.
SEHER provides women entrepreneurs with financial literacy content and tools to help them access the capital they need to grow their businesses.
The program is part of WEP’s Financing Women Collaborative (FWC) program, which aims to accelerate financing for women entrepreneurs and address critical needs in the business ecosystem.
According to government data, 20.5 percent of India’s 63 million micro, small and medium-sized enterprises are owned by women, employing around 27 million people — a large percentage that highlights the importance of supporting women-led businesses for the overall development of the economy.
According to a TransUnion CIBIL report, demand for business loans by women has increased 3.9 times in the last five years. This surge in demand underlines the growing participation of women in entrepreneurship and the need for financial assistance.
The initiative aims to support India’s goal of becoming a $5 trillion economy by empowering more women to start, grow and succeed in their businesses. By improving financial literacy and access to credit, SEHER aims to unleash the potential of women entrepreneurs across the country.
Anna Roy, Mission Director, WEP and Principal Economic Advisor, NITI Aayog, emphasised the importance of financial awareness for the development of MSMEs. Rajesh Kumar, MD & CEO, TransUnion CIBIL said the company is proud to partner with WEP to support women entrepreneurs across various socio-economic sectors and geographies.
By providing education on credit management and financial literacy, SEHER aims to help women entrepreneurs build positive credit histories and improve their access to financing, ultimately contributing to India’s economic growth.
This joint public-private initiative marks an important step towards creating a more inclusive and diverse business environment in India.
