Karnataka Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development MB Patil has secured a strategic partnership with South Korea, a move that bodes well for the future of the state’s startup ecosystem.

Discussions with the South Korean government focused on strengthening relations, with particular attention being paid to meetings between Gyeonggi Province Vice Governor Kim Hyun-gon and Seoul Metropolitan Government Deputy Mayor for Economic Policy Lee Hae-woo.

South Korea’s Lieutenant Governor Kim expressed keen interest in expanding cooperation in the areas of electronics, startups, research and development, biotechnology and medical technology. The meeting highlighted similarities between Bangalore and South Korea’s technology hub, Pangyo Techno Valley. They discussed potential collaboration in the upcoming KHIR city near Bangalore. At the same time, Lieutenant Governor Kim invited the Karnataka government and companies to participate in the Gyeonggi Startup Summit in September 2024 and the Korea Industrial Expo (KoINDEX) to be held in New Delhi in November 2024.

During the meeting, Minister Patil highlighted business interests between the two countries, particularly in finance, investment, startups and research and development. He also encouraged Korean startups to participate in VentuRISE, a global startup challenge.

The delegation also met with KEB Hana Bank officials to discuss the bank’s presence and expansion plans in India. Patil also highlighted Bangalore’s status as an international city. He highlighted the mutual benefits between the bank and the Korean government, as well as between the Korean government and the country.

The meet reflects the state’s proactive efforts to foster international collaboration and will enable Bengaluru to reaffirm its position as a leading investment destination in India. It will also pave new avenues for growth and innovation in the startup ecosystem.

Patil’s successful outreach and the resulting commitment from South Korean officials reflect a bright future.
