Ken Malone, leader of Pigtown’s Early Charm Ventures, made the remarks after Baltimore was ultimately removed from the latest list of EDA Tech Hub funders.
Several leaders of businesses and organizations involved in regional bids in Baltimore and Philadelphia echoed the sentiment, saying that despite the apparent disappointment, plans can still take shape as the bids are organized.

Meet UMBC’s new intrapreneurs
Beyond the Phase 2 funding news, there was a lot to celebrate in Baltimore last month, including the addition of five local entrepreneurs to its resident roster at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County’s bwtech@UMBC Research Park. Some of them may look familiar, including Chris Haug, president of Startup Grind Maryland.
Beyond Catonsville, other happenings in the region included promotions at the Pava Center, the appointment of two new directors at MindGrab and EY recognizing local startup leaders on its “Entrepreneur of the Year” list.

News Incubator: What else do you need to know today?
• Anne Arundel County-based Image Engineering, an entertainment company that creates aerial displays for Baltimore’s Artscape and New Year’s Eve celebrations, will once again send drones into the sky for Independence Day celebrations. [Technical.ly/Technical.ly/BOPA]
