Investors looking to get a head start on their Independence Day celebrations a little early this week are in luck.
Independence Day is a federal holiday celebrated every year on July 4th to commemorate the day the United States declared independence from Great Britain on July 4th, 1776. This year, it falls on a Thursday, so the market’s opening hours the day before will be slightly different.
So far this year, the markets are up: The Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 4.4%, the S&P 500 is up 15.5% and the Nasdaq Composite has surged 20%.

Is the stock market open on July 3rd and July 4th?

The over-the-counter market is open from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday. The bond market is open from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
All US markets will be closed on Thursday for Independence Day and will resume normal trading on Friday.

Is the international market open on July 3rd?

Euronext Paris, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, the Tokyo Stock Exchange and the Shanghai Stock Exchange all hold trading on Wednesday.
Will it be a busy day of trading?
According to Dow Jones Market Data, the average volume of the Composite Stock Market on July 3 over the past five years was 4,948,200,194, while the average for other days was about 10,650,590,085.
In other words, investors can expect trading volume on Wednesday to be around half of normal levels.
