The Kansas City Chiefs finished their mandatory minicamp nearly three weeks ago and have a month off before training camp begins. Rookies and quarterbacks will report to camp on Tuesday, July 16th, while veterans will meet on Saturday, July 20th.
The Chiefs had three players absent from mandatory minicamp and three who participated but did not wear helmets. One of the three players who did not wear helmets is recovering from a knee injury.
The six-year veteran with the Kansas City Chiefs is recovering from a serious knee injury.

Charles Omenihu tore his ACL in the AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens. He missed the Super Bowl and had surgery in late February. He participated in OTAs and mandatory minicamp but did not practice or wear a helmet.
He revealed some encouraging updates.
Charles Omenihu gives positive news on injury situation
“It’s going well,” Omenihu said of his rehabilitation process (via KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson ). “It’s a slow process. Everyone said it would be like that, but it’s going well. Honestly, I’m calm and collected right now. I’m just keeping myself like that. Just staying sober and one day I’ll be able to pick up the pace like that.”
He tore his ACL in late January, and because recovery from ACL surgery typically takes six to nine months (possibly longer), he will start the 2024 season on the PUP list, hypothetically missing at least the first four weeks.
He wasn’t the only defensive end who didn’t practice.
The Kansas City Chiefs’ fifth-round pick missed camp due to health concerns.
B.J. Thompson suffered a seizure and went into cardiac arrest during a special teams conference on Thursday, June 6. Thompson is doing better and was released from the hospital one week later on Tuesday, June 11. He will miss mandatory minicamp and is recuperating at home.
The Kansas City Chiefs will have to rely on their second-year players for the time being.

With Charles Omenihu recovering from an injury and B.J. Thompson also recovering from health scare, the Chiefs’ defensive end duo has been weakened, and they will have to rely on 2023 first-round draft pick Felix Anudike Uzomah until both are recovered.
Anudike Uzomah didn’t play much as a rookie, playing only 20% of the defensive snaps and missing three of the four playoff games for health reasons, but he did play in the Super Bowl and made an impact on defense with one tackle for loss.
