Barbecue sauce preferences are similarly diverse, with California and Texas users searching for Japanese and Hawaiian barbecue sauces, respectively, showcasing a fusion of traditional and global flavors.

Even hot dogs, a quintessential American treat, show regional differences: New York State favors the traditional Coney Island hot dog, while Illinois and Arizona favor Chicago-style or Sonoran hot dogs, proving that local flavors shape traditional dishes.

Top Searches for Food and Beverage Preparation

As Independence Day approaches, searches for certain foods spike. Instructions on how to make “red, white and blue Jell-O shots” have tripled, reflecting the festive spirit of the celebratory beverage. Similarly, searches for how to make grilled watermelon and watermelon salad have also seen a seasonal increase, highlighting the preference for the refreshing summer fruit around the holiday.

Grilling Techniques and Fourth of July Cocktails

Google searches don’t just cover food, but cooking methods and drinks too.

Searches for grilling tips, including how to grill corn, salmon, chicken breasts, asparagus, and burgers, peaked around this time, suggesting that grilling remains a central component of Independence Day celebrations. When it comes to cocktails, bomb pop cocktails and sangria lead the trend, followed by other favorites like the Aviation Cocktail, Margarita, and Aperol Spritz.

Activity and Apparel Trends

Beyond food, Americans are also looking for the best ways to celebrate, with water parks, fireworks, camping, movies and visiting the zoo all ranking high on the list of activities.

The legality of fireworks was a common concern, with searches increasing in states like Nebraska and Colorado. Additionally, searches for “red, white and blue” apparel items, including skorts, t-shirts, hats, heels and summer dresses, highlight the festive mood and desire to dress in patriotic colors.

The variety of Google searches for activities, foods, and clothing ahead of the Fourth of July are a colorful reflection of how Americans celebrate their country’s independence. From regional foods to festive drinks to a variety of outdoor activities, the Fourth of July spirit shines through, illustrating a nation that is united in celebration yet diverse in its expressions of joy.
