The Miami football team is keeping its eye on Jacksonville Mandarin four-star safety Hilton Stubbs, who decommitted from USC on Thursday. On3’s Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong, along with 247Sports’ Tom Roy and Gaby Urrutia, all expect Miami to land Stubbs.
The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine predicts that Miami has a very high chance of accepting Stubbs at 79.2%. The University of Florida has a 17.3% chance of accepting him. Other schools, including USC, have less than a 2% chance of accepting Stubbs.
Stubbs took an official visit to Miami the weekend of June 21 after previously taking three unofficial visits to Coral Gables. USC hosted Stubbs the weekend of May 31, and Florida hosted him for an official visit the weekend of June 14. USC has recently lost several commitments in the 2025 class. Stubbs originally committed to USC in March.
The 247Sports composite rankings list Stubbs as the No. 56 prospect, No. 6 safety and No. 9 player in Florida for the class of 2025. Roy reported that Stubbs told 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins he will announce whether he will go to Florida or Miami on the Fourth of July.

Miami committed cornerbacks Timothy Merritt and Chris Ewald and safety Amari Wallace in June, and a secondary in need of playmakers is coming together in the class of 2025. Stubbs is ranked more than 100th nationally in Miami’s 2025 freshman class.
Linebacker Elijah Melendez, the No. 135 prospect nationally, is currently Miami’s top commit in the class of 2025. If Stubbs commits, Miami would move up from the No. 17 class nationally to No. 14. The 2025 class closed late Sunday night.
Stubbs will be a big boost for a Miami secondary that will have two new starting safeties in 2024. Z’Quan Patterson, a four-star safety signed in 2024, is expected to compete for significant snaps this season, while Mishael Powell, a transfer from Washington, has one year of eligibility remaining at Miami.

Patterson, Stubbs and Wallace would give Miami three quality safeties in the future. Safety is one of the last positions Cristobal will fill with high school recruits. Miami’s class of 2025 looks to be trending as one of the best secondaries in the nation.
