External Affairs Minister Jaishankar met Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani in Doha on Sunday and reviewed bilateral ties focusing on politics, trade, investment, energy, technology, culture and people-to-people ties.
Jaishankar, who arrived here on a one-day visit, also exchanged views with Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed, who is also the Minister for External Affairs, on the regional and global situation.
“Delighted to meet the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar @MBA_AlThani_ in Doha this afternoon. I conveyed the greetings and warm blessings of Prime Minister @narendramodi to His Highness the Amir and to him,” Jaishankar said in a post on X.
“We reviewed bilateral relations, focusing on politics, trade, investment, energy, technology, culture and people-to-people ties. We exchanged views on regional and global issues. I thank him for sharing his insights on the situation in Gaza,” he said.
“We hope that India-Qatar relations will be further strengthened and dialogue on issues of mutual interest will continue,” he added.
Jaishankar’s visit comes four-and-a-half months after Qatar released eight former Indian naval personnel who were arrested and sentenced to death in August 2022.
Earlier in the day, Jaishankar was received at the airport by Chief of Protocol Ibrahim Fakhroo.
“The visit will enable both sides to review various aspects of bilateral relations, including political, trade, investment, energy, security, cultural and people-to-people exchanges as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest,” India’s Ministry of External Affairs said in New Delhi on Saturday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Qatar from February 14-15 and met with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
“India and Qatar share historic and friendly relations marked by regular high-level visits,” the Ministry of External Affairs said.
