In-state target Chase Loftin is no longer with Nebraska football.

The University of Nebraska football program has missed out on some key players in the recruiting process in recent weeks, and now with in-state first, the Huskers could be in for another failed recruitment spree.

Chase Loftin was one of the University of Nebraska football’s top prospects for the freshman recruiting class of 2025. He has visited the Huskers over 10 times since Matt Lue was hired. He is ranked No. 2 in the state of Nebraska for the 2025 class and is committed to Florida State University.

Chase Loftin expected to miss University of Nebraska football game

The Seminoles were among the teams that hosted Loftin for an official visit, along with the University of Nebraska football team, the University of Missouri, Kansas State and Texas A&M. Loftin visited Lincoln last weekend and the positive momentum was felt for the Huskers.

But things are starting to calm down. This week has been really quiet, with no crystal ball predictions or expert predictions in sight. Now we know why: Florida State is the favorite to win.

After the visit, Husker Online’s Brian Munson, who initially predicted Loftin would go to Nebraska, has now changed his prediction to Florida State. The Seminoles have three expert projections and currently have a 92 percent chance of landing the 6-foot-6, 215-pound tight end from Omaha.

Loftin also has a prediction for the Noles. He’s ranked No. 374 overall in the 2025 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings, and a decision could come as soon as next week. Loftin said he wants to decide “soon” after his final visit, and that decision won’t be a commitment to the Huskers.

A prediction is not a promise, but this is a really bad sign.
