Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry, in his third year, is a defensive veteran. Prior to taking over for Justin Fuente in Blacksburg, Pry served as James Franklin’s defensive coordinator at Penn State.
Coach Pry and his staff have been doing very well with recruiting recently, adding key players for the 2025 class on both offense and defense, but the Hokies have been adding some quality players on the defensive end, and with one day left until Sunday’s decision, Virginia Tech is on track to land one key player out of North Carolina.
Sherrod Henderson, a three-star edge from Rocky Hill, North Carolina, is set to announce his decision on Sunday, with Virginia Tech trending as the No. 29 overall player in the state of North Carolina in 247Sports’ latest Crystal Ball projections.
Henderson took official visits to South Florida, Duke and Michigan State but removed South Florida as his first choice earlier this week. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Henderson received a recommendation from Virginia Tech this spring, and the Hokies already signed edge forward Zeke Chinwike of the 2025 class last Monday night.
In 2023, Henderson recorded 75 tackles and 12 sacks as a junior and rushed for over 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns as a running back. Of course, things can always change in the recruiting process, but for now, Henderson is committed to the Hokies. Pry and his staff have done a very good job recruiting the defensive end class, and landing Henderson would be further validation that what the head coach and staff are building in Blacksburg is real and that Virginia Tech is on track to return in the short term.
