The only thing better than a bath is taking one outdoors (if we do say so ourselves). Backyard cold water baths and outdoor tub use have increased since the pandemic, with many choosing to take part in their self-care routine in the comfort of their own homes.
One of them is none other than Lenny Kravitz. It’s not over until it’s over The singer, coast-to-coast actor and musician recently shared a photo of himself lounging in a wooden tub (albeit with an umbrella to keep out the rain), but the tub is also providing some backyard inspiration, and we can’t imagine a better sunny-day activity.
Soaking in a bathtub is incredibly beneficial for the mind, body and soul, which is why it is sought after by so many people, especially in a therapeutic outdoor bath setting.
“It’s a meditative experience that aids in focus, healing and relaxation,” says Secret Sauna founder Jasper Knight. “A long, deep soak in warm water increases blood flow and relieves muscle tension. Plus, a dip outdoors allows you to listen to the gentle sounds of the breeze and rustling leaves. It’s a holistic, calming experience that promotes mental and physical restoration.”
Knight also says that not only are outdoor hot tubs good for your mental and physical health, they also look (and should look) great in your backyard.
“They’re aesthetically pleasing and can greatly enhance the appearance of an outdoor area,” he says. “Plus, with the growing trend of adding wellness and spa-like features to homes, outdoor bathtubs have become a popular luxury item.”
Knight said Kravitz’s bathtub choice was spot on.
“Wood is a great material for an outdoor hot tub, especially teak or cedar, which are naturally resistant to moisture and decay,” he explains. “Wooden tubs are also not that difficult to clean and maintain.”
To maintain your wooden tub, Knight suggests a cleaning procedure to extend the tub’s lifespan.
“Drain all water from the bathtub after each use,” he suggests. “Use antibacterial soap to remove any dirt. After cleaning, squeeze out as much water as possible and wipe off any remaining water. Then open the bathtub and let it air out naturally. If your bathtub is not used for an extended period of time, it can become extremely dry and eventually crack. To prevent this, place a bucket of water in the bathtub with the lid on to prevent it from drying out.”
