TUSTIN, Calif. – The Sheriff’s Department announced today that OC Sheriff Technology CenterThis will consolidate the three departments into one, improving operational efficiency and effectiveness.
The 120,000-square-foot facility in Tustin will house the Department of Defense’s Technology, Operational Support and Intelligence and Special Operations divisions.
The Sheriff Technology Center’s grand opening marks the opening of the OC Sheriff’s Real-Time Operations Center, which leverages technology to improve public safety and response to critical incidents.
The Sheriff’s Technology Center is a state-of-the-art facility that combines real-time crime analysis with public safety resources including emergency communications, federal partnerships and technology to address a variety of incidents.
“Our staff are at the heart of providing great service, but giving them the space and tools they need enhances their ability to protect our communities,” said Orange County Sheriff and Coroner Don Barnes. “We are driving a culture change in how we use technology and look forward to seeing solutions-focused ways to prevent crime, solve cases and improve the quality of life for our residents.”
Orange County purchased the building in June 2022. The facility is estimated to cost $110 million, which includes all security, audio/visual and structural upgrades.
The Sheriff Technology Center will house the Sheriff’s Department’s Technology Division, which is made up of six teams that perform a variety of essential functions, including maintaining the County’s 800 MHz wireless infrastructure, performing information technology services, and providing technology upgrades to vehicles for over 100 County agencies.
The Operations Support and Intelligence Division will also operate from the new center, which includes the Real-Time Operations Center, Sheriff’s Dispatch and Control One and the Orange County Intelligence Evaluation Center.
As part of the Special Enforcement Bureau, the SWAT Team and Hazardous Devices Division also operate out of the Sheriff’s Technology Center, which has the space to adequately support the department’s personnel, tools and assets.
Additionally, the facility will feature large training and conference rooms, a media briefing room, common areas and eventually a museum space to preserve and honor the Sheriff’s Department’s rich history.
