Three Questions
About Summer Music Festivals
With Dreamland and Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival this weekend and more music festivals on the way, we spoke to David Altavia, who tracks the biggest festivals, about what to expect.
Lily: What are some big music festivals happening in July?
David: There are plenty of great festivals to check out, but two that stand out are Levitate Music and Arts Festival (July 5-7) and Newport Folk Festival (July 26-28).
Lily: What do people need to know before going to these big festivals?
David: If the festival has multiple stages, we recommend creating a tentative calendar of artists you want to see. Some events even have their own apps, which you can download to stay up to date.
Lily: What precautions can people take to stay safe and avoid heatstroke?
David: Experts advised us to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, watch for the nearest first aid station, watch for early symptoms of heatstroke, like dizziness and muscle cramps, and most importantly, take a break from the sun.
