GXO Ranked Among Top 50 Companies for Employing Veterans in 2024
LONDON, United Kingdom, June 27, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — GXO Logistics Co., Ltd. (NYSE: GXO), the world’s largest pure-play contract logistics provider, today announced it has been nominated in two categories for the UK Ex-Servicemen Business Awards, the world’s largest awards celebrating veterans re-entering the workforce.
GXO UK&I has been nominated for Employer of the Year for the second year in a row by Ex-Forces in Business in recognition of its efforts to support colleagues who are part of the armed forces community. For 2024, GXO UK&I was ranked 33rd.rd Ranked among the top 50 employers of military veterans in the UK, as chosen by the Ex-Forces in Business Awards.
Currently, 85 GXO colleagues in the UK and Ireland are active reservists, cadet volunteers or veterans of the British Armed Forces. GXO actively works with the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces to support recruitment pathways for active duty personnel leaving the armed forces. GXO supports veterans and reservists through a range of initiatives including the GXO Armed Forces Community, internal and external events, paid time off for training, mobilisation support and mental health initiatives to assist with return to work.
“Having colleagues who are or have served in the military is a huge benefit to GXO,” says Mark Simmons, GXO senior vice president of human resources for the UK and Ireland. “We understand the sacrifices those in the military community make for us and they deserve our full support. There are many transferable skills our colleagues learned serving in the military that they bring with them to the logistics industry, and it’s fantastic to see Colin, and all of our ex-military colleagues, recognised for their impact. I couldn’t be prouder that we support such courageous and knowledgeable people at GXO.”
In just over two years, GXO has been awarded both the Bronze and Silver Covenant by the UK Defence Employer Accreditation Scheme in recognition of its proactive commitment to supporting veterans and reservists, and the company is aiming to go a step further and become a Gold Covenant employer.
Fred Hopkins, engagement officer at East Midlands Reserve and Cadet Association, said: “Last year GXO was awarded a Silver award in the Ministry of Defence Employer Award Scheme.
“This award recognises the exceptional support provided to the defence community by forward-thinking companies like GXO, who recognise the added value that the defence community brings to their business.
“We know they have ambitious plans for the coming months and years and we wish them all the best at the British Ex-Servicemen Business Awards.”
In addition to GXO’s team nominations, Colin Martin, who works as QHSE Manager at GXO, was named a finalist for Reservist of the Year in the individual category. Colin has served in the Royal Logistics Corps (RLC) as a logistics specialist for 24 years and has completed training and assessment to become an RLC Captain in 2023.
Commenting on his nomination, Colin said: “I am really delighted to have been nominated and shortlisted for the UK Ex-Servicemen Business Awards. It’s great to be able to create synergies between GXO and the Royal Logistics Corps (RLC) as I continue to develop my skills and experience. My career with GXO has undoubtedly helped me to progress and achieve at RLC and I am grateful for the support I have received from both organisations.”
GXO offers all reservists and adult cadet volunteers additional paid time off to complete training for their military assignments, but Colin has done more than that: in addition to his paid time off from GXO, Colin donated over 100 days of his own time last year to serve in the military.
Aside from his own incremental individual advancement goals, Colin has also used 2023 to strengthen the relationship between the Army Reserve and GXO Logistics, which has allowed them to quickly synergize opportunities that provide multiple benefits to both parties, thus putting both his Reserve Regiment and GXO in a perfect position to win the RLC Foundation Award for Employer Reserve Involvement in November 2023.
