There are some true things about former Ole Miss and Auburn football standout Tommy Tuberville and his head coaching career. He was a winner, for the most part, compiling a 159-99 record in 21 years as an FBS head coach, winning the SEC West six times and the AAC once, and leading Auburn football to a glorious 13-0 record in 2004. It’s also true that Tuberville’s coaching career has been tainted with horror stories, mostly when he left or enrolled at a college. Still, it’s odd to see Tuberville criticize or praise college coaches on Twitter.
On Tuesday, Tuberville spoke out on a hot-button issue, praising Liberty Panthers High School track and field coaches Brad Anderson and Jason Keniston for their stance on allowing biological male athletes to compete against females. Gender inequality continues to be a hot topic at both the high school and college levels.

Former Auburn University football head coach Tommy Tuberville doesn’t shy away from discussing politics in sports. On Tuesday, Mallory Saylor of the Independent Women’s Forum published an article about a woman who is biologically male but identifies as transgender winning the 400 meters at a state meet in Washington state, ultimately leading her team to the state championships. Jason Keniston, the high school coach who participated in the event, said, “Regardless of world or national politics, who is going to think that’s fair?”
We need more coaches like Brad Anderson and Jason Keniston who advocate for female athletes.
Parents, coaches and educators need to be united on this.
Men should not participate in women’s sports. Period. https://t.co/zBPgXzDJQO

Former Auburn University football player and current Alabama state senator Tuberville weighed in on the issue on Twitter, saying, “We need more coaches like Brad Anderson and Jason Keniston who will advocate for female athletes. Parents, coaches and educators need to come together on this. Men should not play in women’s sports. End of story.” A longtime frontman for Auburn University football, Tuberville frequently uses his Twitter account to discuss political issues in sports. He has long opposed President Joe Biden’s bill to expand protections for LGBTQ+ students through Title IX. He also introduced the Protect Athletes, Schools & Sports (PASS) Act of 2023, which would regulate Name, Image and Likeness (NIL).
Tommy Tuberville: A surprising coaching story happened at Centre State in June
Earlier this month, former Auburn football wide receiver Tyler Siskey, one half of the McCready and Siskey podcast, shared a causal story about his relationship with Tommy Tuberville. Before Tuberville’s first season with Auburn football, the frontman called Siskey into his office and told him he was staying: “Tyler, we signed six wide receivers yesterday. If you still have any hope of getting out of the tunnel, it’s going to be from the visitors’ sideline. Do you want your release?”
Siskey received his release papers already printed and signed. A few weeks later, after an offseason workout, Tuberville again showed stunning disrespect when his bench boss removed Siskey’s friend from his scholarship without notice. But Siskey had the last laugh a decade later when Tuberville came to scout Alabama powerhouse St. Paul’s Episcopal. The former wide receiver was the school’s offensive coordinator. Ultimately, Tuberville missed out on St. Paul’s Episcopal quarterback and future three-time BCS national champion AJ McCarron and one-time All-American safety Mark Barron, who both ended up with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Following the tragedy of Tommy Tuberville’s Auburn football career, fans reflected on his departure from Texas Tech. During a freshman-only dinner in 2012, Tuberville walked away to take a call from the Cincinnati Bearcats and never returned. The next day, as those same freshmen were touring the campus and team facilities, news began to surface that Tuberville had accepted the head coaching job at Cincinnati and left Texas Tech prior to their bowl game against Minnesota.
