Tigers eager to acquire No. 1 wide receiver in Louisiana

Brian Kelly and the Louisiana State football staff have had some big successes in recent weeks on the recruiting trail, securing their first 2026 signing last week with more deals on the way.

The Bayou Bengals acquired a commitment from Richard Anderson, the No. 7 overall pick out of Louisiana and a top-10 DL in the nation, on Friday.

The initiative marks LSU’s first of the 2026 fiscal year cycle and continues to build momentum for the program.

From there, attention was drawn to the pledge of elite in-state wide receiver Jakay Anderson, the McDonough 35 (New Orleans, Louisiana) native who made his commitment known Saturday afternoon.

Currently, LSU is trending towards having some valuable targets on the big board in 2026, with more likely to come on the way.

Notable things: Jabari Mack.

The Tigers have made the four-star wide receiver a major priority in their recruiting efforts over the past few months, and after earning an offer, the Destrehan (La.) star had LSU at the top of his list, and now it’s even more clear.

We’ve already seen On3 Sports scouting expert Shea Dixon record favorable projections for the LSU Tigers over the weekend.

LSU Country spoke with a source familiar with Mack’s recruitment, and the expectations for a top-10 wide receiver in the country are real.

Mack has attracted interest from some of the top programs in the country and has dominated summer camp so far, with offers piling up and Louisiana State University hoping to keep the Bayou State star in the Boot after his high school career is over.

While there’s still a long way to go before the 2026 star signs a contract, LSU is doing its due diligence this time around. They are eager to land him, and projections are already beginning to emerge for Louisiana’s top prospect.

LSU currently has two commitments in the class of 2026 with more expected in the near future.

Commitment: Richard Anderson and Jacai Anderson

Richard Anderson: Top 10 American DL (2026)

Brian Kelly and the Louisiana State University Tigers have signed New Orleans (Louisiana) Edna Carr defensive lineman Richard Anderson, they announced via social media Friday night.

Anderson, the No. 7 prospect in the state of Louisiana according to On3 Sports, just visited Baton Rouge for the Tigers’ Friday Night Lights camp.

While on campus, the 6-foot-4, 320-pound player turned down recruiting offers and made his commitment to defensive line coach Bo Davis and the LSU program clear.

It’s an impressive pledge for Davis and the team, as the Tigers secure their first commitment of the 2026 cycle while keeping one of the Bayou State’s top players local.

The Edna Carr to LSU pipeline continues with Anderson’s pledge, as we’ve seen talented prospects from one of the top schools in New Orleans take their talents to LSU.

Now, Anderson is the next candidate to continue this trend.

The popular defensive tackle chose Louisiana State University over the top schools in the country, and after a standout sophomore season, verbal offers began pouring in from several schools, including Miami, Oregon and USC.

When Davis arrived in Baton Rouge to take the job as defensive line coach at Louisiana State University, the team was eager to secure top talent to put up front.

After losing several top prospects to the NCAA transfer portal, Davis settled in and began to dominate the high school rankings.

Jakay Anderson: Louisiana’s coveted wide receiver (2026)

Anderson is one of the Bayou State’s best prospects and his dedication gives the Tigers one of the best players in the South.

The McDonough 35 (New Orleans, Louisiana) wide receiver continues to flourish after an impressive sophomore season.

Anderson is a versatile athlete who could ultimately play both defensive and defensive back for the Tigers, and while he excels as a wide receiver, he also has a chance to play safety in Death Valley.

The 6-foot, 160-pound player has attracted double-digit offers in recent months, with the Tigers finally landing his deal on Saturday.

Anderson has been to Baton Rouge several times, including unofficial trips for game-day experiences and camps at LSU. He attended camps at Tiger Stadium twice, once last summer and once this week.
