Be it Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sabrina Carpenter or even famous runway models, butter yellow has emerged as a trend this season. But with monsoon season in Mumbai, is incorporating this pale hue into your wardrobe a realistic option? Personal branding expert and image consultant Mihika Bhanot advises that layering is key. “Butter yellow is a very easy colour to style, yet it is also one that is not commonly chosen. It adds a pop of colour to an outfit. It can be worn as a bold and youthful colour or as an introverted, delicate and dainty colour. It is a versatile colour that can be styled to suit your personality and different occasions,” explains Bhanot. Keeping in mind the city’s volatile weather, she offers some tips on how to pull off the colour.
Focus on layering
It may rain soon in Mumbai. Butter yellow is an easy shade to go for messy. “You don’t necessarily have to add this color to your outfit. You can have fun with accessories to get on trend,” she says. For example, pair an all-grey outfit with a butter yellow handbag. Add small elements like earrings, necklace, chunky bracelet, pumps, signature heels, tie and bag. “But be careful not to overdo it. If you choose a chunky necklace, keep your earrings and necklace minimal. You can also add more gold accessories to your outfit this season, as it is the color closest to yellow. Some of the best outfits usually have one focal point. Butter yellow is a good color to create that focal point.” [effect]” she suggests.
Playing with colors
“You need one more color to power your buttercup yellow. In the fashion world, there’s something called an accent-neutral color scheme, where the accent is a bright shade that pairs well with a muted tone like buttercup yellow,” she adds. This could involve picking different shades of pink, such as a magenta dress, paired with butter yellow earrings, a scarf, and pumps. “Other colors that work well together to create a color block include electric blue, sky blue, purple, indigo, aqua, pastel green, and whites like ivory and cream,” she says, adding that red and yellow combinations,
Even in monochrome.
Full Looks
“Monochrome gives a calm and strong look. You can go for a coordinated set, a power suit or a butter yellow dress like Deepika Padukone wore last month. Another style is a butter yellow satin dress. But in this case, don’t forget to go all out with accessories,” she recommends. Take a cue from Kareena Kapoor Khan’s recent airport look by teaming a plain shirt with white trousers or a butter yellow ruffled shirt with a grey checked skirt for a more business-like look, she says. “Pair a yellow skater skirt with a white T-shirt and you’re ready for brunch.” For men, she says, such hues have a softer look. “Choose a yellow linen oversized shirt and team it with ivory linen trousers or light grey trousers. Get a butter yellow tie, laptop bag, suitcase etc to bring in soft yellow accents in your everyday outfits,” she concludes.
