Indian National Space Propulsion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) has launched the Pre-Incubation Entrepreneurship Programme, a pioneering initiative aimed at supporting and nurturing early stage space startups. The Pre-Incubation Entrepreneurship (PIE) programme will nurture and empower the next generation of space technology innovators, providing them with the tools and guidance required to turn their space dreams into a reality.

“Indian space industry is poised to grow exponentially and young entrepreneurs are essential to drive this expansion. The PIE program will provide them with a launch pad, equipping them not only with the technical expertise but also the business acumen needed to navigate the complexities of the space industry,” said Pawan Goenka, Chairman, IN-SPACe.

The program is aimed at technical students graduating in 2024 or with a strong interest in space technology, or students completing a Masters or PhD program who are currently working for an early-stage startup with a focus on space technology.

According to Goenka, the early stage support will unlock the potential of our innovative talent and contribute to India’s leadership in the global space industry.

The 21-month program takes aspiring entrepreneurs through a comprehensive journey divided into distinct phases of ideation, innovation and prototype development, and ensures that they receive structured support at each critical stage of development.

Direct access to industry veterans and subject matter experts will provide valuable insights, feedback and networking opportunities, Goenka added.

“It will instil a culture of innovation among entrepreneurs, drive scientific advancements that will generate socio-economic benefits, contribute to broader economic development and create new job opportunities in India’s space sector,” Goenka said.

Entrants must not have received any grants, funding, or financial support from any private or governmental program, and all submissions must be original work.

Startups registered with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade of India (DPIIT) on or after July 1, 2022, will be classified as early stage startups. For more details, visit www.inspace.gov.in
