Earlier this month, the College Football Hall of Fame released its 2025 ballot, with legendary head coaches Urban Meyer and Nick Saban among the names on the list. Notably, longtime Louisiana State football bench boss Les Miles was not on the ballot for the second straight year. Of the national championship coaches from 2000-2009, only three are not in the Hall of Fame or are close to being inducted: Miles, Miami’s Larry Coker, and USC’s Pete Carroll. Outside of Miami, Coker struggled and Carroll failed to meet the 10-season mark. But Miles was stripped of wins by Louisiana State in an embezzlement scandal and is only on the outside looking in, falling short of the .600 winning percentage required for induction.
Reports surfaced on Monday that Miles had filed a lawsuit against his former school, claiming that the wins that LSU revoked had made him ineligible for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame (his induction came after Miles’ career winning percentage fell below a certain threshold). Miles claims that the 37 wins from 2012-2015 that were revoked are his and that LSU cannot rescind them. Miles, one of the most prominent head coaches of the 21st century, sparked considerable backlash on social media when his lawsuit against LSU was revealed.
College Football Fans: Reaction to former LSU football head coach Les Miles’ lawsuit

In 2023, Louisiana State University football stripped head coach Les Miles of 37 wins after an investigation found the bench boss had made payments to the family of former SEC offensive lineman and NFL player Badar Alexander. Recruiting violations cost Miles many of his wins and he finished his coaching career with a 108-73 winning percentage (.597) after a late-career slump with the Kansas Jayhawks. Miles’ final winning percentage made him ineligible for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, and he subsequently filed a lawsuit against his former school.
When it became clear that Miles was preparing a legal battle with his alma mater, college football fans took to Twitter (aka X) to share a variety of reactions. In addition to the embezzlement scandal, Miles also fought a legal battle with LSU in 2013 over a relationship with a female student, which led to multiple allegations coming to light.
We LSU fans are going to file a counter lawsuit against Les Miles for forcing fans into an offense where Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry only run the I-formation https://t.co/C4y95uCntW

A 3-18 record at Kansas certainly didn’t help.

I think I speak for the entire fan base and the entire organization in what I say.
A lawsuit needs to be filed against Les Miles for ruining the 2012 BCS National Championship Game.

Christian brother, Les Miles, it wasn’t LSU that missed out on the Hall of Fame, it was the University of Alabama in 2011.

Les Miles: A Legendary College Coaching Career

From 2005 to 2016, Les Miles won seven bowl games with the LSU Tigers and endured an interim victory. He led the Tigers to the SEC Championship in his first year in charge, finishing the season with a Peach Bowl victory over the Miami Hurricanes. LSU and Miles again won double-digit games in 2006 and won the BCS Championship around 2007. LSU football returned to the BCS Championship in 2011, but ultimately lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide. LSU won double-digit games in 2012 and 2013, but then saw a steady decline in performance. After starting the 2016 season 2-2, LSU parted ways with Miles and promoted defensive line coach Ed Orgeron to interim head coach.
Prior to coming to Louisiana State, Miles coached the Oklahoma State Cowboys for five seasons. The Ohio native compiled a respectable 28-21 record during that time. However, his coaching career after Louisiana State struggled, going 3-18 in a two-year stint with the Kansas Jayhawks and 0-9 in the COVID-shortened 2020 season. Kansas and Miles parted ways in the offseason after public misconduct allegations against the head coach became public. In 19 seasons, Miles won one title, two SEC championships and numerous Coach of the Year awards, including in 2011.
