The Padres, who are below .500 and falling in the National League wild-card standings, arrive in Philadelphia to begin a three-game series.
But they are likely to use multiple starters in next month’s All-Star Game.
MLB released the initial voting results on Monday, with two Padres players leading the way in their respective positions.

Teoscar Hernandez (761,934) and the Phillies Brandon Marsh (521,461) and Nick Castellanos (439,764) rounded out the top six, a reminder that this contest is a popularity contest for teams.
The next player who could move on to the next round of voting is a third baseman. Manny Machado267,063, well below the pace of the Phillies third baseman. Alec Bohm (1,012,174), but he was the Brewers’ rookie leader. Joey Ortiz (244,957).
Outside of the outfield, the top two vote-getters will advance to the second phase.

MLB Network will announce the finalists on June 27th.
The second phase of voting will begin on June 30th at 9am ET and fans will have the chance to vote for finalists for each position during the period that ends on July 3rd at 9am ET.
ESPN plans to announce the starting lineup on July 3 and the full roster on July 7.

So with both Machado and Profar playing defense due to recent injury concerns, Solano will fill in as the designated hitter.
Machado (hip flexor) will play third base for the third straight game, while Profar (knee) will play in left field for the third time in four days.
The Phillies are Trea Turner Players who are removed from the injured list will play in the series finale.

Monday’s pitcher’s showdown
Padres RHP Randy Vazquez (1-3, 4.93 ERA)
The 25-year-old rookie has allowed three runs or fewer (3.97 ERA) in his past four starts, striking out 15 and walking three while allowing batters to hit .300/.330/.522 in that time. This will be Vazquez’s first time facing the Phillies and their lineup.
Phillies left-hander Christopher Sanchez (3-3, 3.07 ERA)
The 27-year-old Sanchez allowed four runs, tying his season-high, in just four innings in his shortest appearance since April 23. He has allowed just one home run in 70⅓ innings this season. Sanchez allowed three runs in five innings against the Padres last year, his only appearance against San Diego.
