our Political reporter Gurpreet Narwan Ahead of the announcement at around 11am, he said the soon-to-be published policy document was being “touted as a big plan to invest in a ‘broken Britain'”.
The government will use “tax reform” to fund public services, targeting the wealthiest in society.
“The main focus is a new tax on billionaires and multimillionaires, starting at 1% for those with assets over £10m,” Gurpreet said.
“The government also wants to bring wealth and income taxes into line by increasing capital gains tax on the sale of stocks and investment properties to match the tax people pay on their wages.”
But the Greens are also planning a “massive assault on wage earners”, including increasing National Insurance contributions for people earning more than £50,000.
Gurpreet points out that this includes one in four teachers.
The party claims it is the only one “being honest with voters” about what is needed to fund public services.
The report says Labour and the Conservative parties are not being honest with voters.
After a strong showing in last month’s local elections, Gurpreet said the party was aiming to win four seats at Westminster.
It has become “a sort of haven” for local Conservative voters, but also generates an “interesting mix” of support from left-wing Labour supporters disillusioned with Keir Starmer.
