As part of the U.S.’ continuing commitment to Ukraine, the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) today announced that the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs’ (AWE) AWE4Ukraine Summit will be held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, June 10-13. Hosted by the U.S. Embassy in Ljubljana, the summit will bring together 73 AWE alumni from Ukraine to leverage U.S. business expertise and technology to further develop the alumni’s business acumen and networks, helping to revitalize Ukraine’s entrepreneurial environment and achieve sustainable economic growth.
While some participants completed the AWE program in Ukraine before the Russian invasion, Putin’s brutal war forced many Ukrainian graduates to complete their programs in other European countries, including Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Portugal and Slovenia. The summit will feature workshops, panel discussions and networking opportunities, focusing on fostering cross-border collaboration to create a lasting peer-to-peer community among AWE’s Ukrainian exchange alumni. U.S. Chair Kate Isler, CEO of e-commerce site TheWMarketplace, will deliver the keynote address.
As a flagship program to promote entrepreneurship through expanded trade, AWE aligns with the U.S. Global Women’s Economic Security Strategy, which has a vision that women and girls around the world can fully, meaningfully and equally contribute to and benefit from economic growth and global prosperity.
The Slovenian government and people have shown great support to the Ukrainian people during Russia’s war of aggression, and the United States commends Slovenia for welcoming many refugees and providing assistance to Ukraine.
