In a new book chronicling his time as a reality TV star, Donald Trump shared his thoughts about Taylor Swift, focusing specifically on her looks.

“I think she’s beautiful. Very beautiful! I think she’s very beautiful,” he said. variety Ramin Setoodeh, author and co-editor of the book.

When asked about Swift’s political leanings, Trump speculated, “I think she’s liberal. She probably doesn’t like Trump. I hear she’s very talented. I think she’s actually very beautiful. Extraordinarily beautiful!”

Swift has previously been known to keep her politics separate from her music, but she eventually took a stand. Though she was initially quiet about her beliefs, her silence sparked rumors during the 2016 election that she might be a Republican.

“You’ve been very secretive about how you vote and what you vote for,” she was asked about around the time Barack Obama was running for reelection against Mitt Romney. “I just think of myself as a 22-year-old singer. I don’t know if people really want to hear my political views. I think people just want to hear me sing songs about breakups and feelings.”

But Swift broke her silence in 2018, publicly endorsing Tennessee Democratic candidates Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper, a change documented in her film. Miss AmericanaThere she explained the reasons for her change of heart.

In an Instagram post featured in the documentary, Swift explained why she’s finally started speaking out politically.

“In the past I have been reluctant to publicly express my political opinions, but several events in my life and the world over the past two years have made me feel very differently about it now,” she wrote on Instagram in October 2018. “I have always and will continue to vote based on candidates who will protect and fight for the human rights that I believe we all deserve in this country.”

in Miss AmericanaSwift reflected on her past reluctance to get involved in politics, and revealed that there is pressure within the country music industry not to force political views on fans. “Part of the essence of being a country artist is not to force your politics on people,” she explained. “Let people live their own lives. That’s what we’re trained to do.”

She continued: [2016] “During the presidential election, I was in such a bad place that I wasn’t even going to stick my head out,” she explains, “These aren’t celebrities in your dad’s words, they’re not Republicans in your dad’s words… I need to be on the right side of history.”

Swift’s activism has even gone so far as to directly condemn President Trump, calling out his actions and statements on social media in 2020. “After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts, the shooting starts’? I will be voting to oust you in November,” she tweeted at Trump.

Swift has not declared her endorsement in the upcoming 2024 election.
