R-rated horror movies on Disney Plus

The addition of Hulu titles to Disney Plus allows the streaming service to offer a more diverse range of content across genres. In addition to traditional family-friendly fare, subscribers can also find R-rated material, many of which are taken from the 20th Century Fox library. Currently, R-rated horror movies from Disney’s 20th Century Studios are proving popular on Disney Plus.

The surprising success of this horror film, which recently finished its theatrical run, was recently revealed. Currently, the film is ranked 10th on Disney+. At the time of writing, it is unclear if the film has a chance to move up any higher.

But at this point, it’s still an impressive achievement for the film, especially considering its lackluster box office performance: the film only made $53.7 million on a $30 million budget, which is hardly a desirable figure considering it’s a prequel to an iconic horror movie.

This movie is none other than The first signswas released earlier this year on April 5, 2024. With just a few months until it hits the streaming service, it’s surprising to see this horror movie doing so well on Disney Plus (Hulu in the US). Of course, many moviegoers nowadays prefer the streaming experience, so maybe they felt it was worth watching at home instead of in the theater.

This certainly proves that there is still an audience. Omens Brando believes the next iteration of the franchise will likely move to streaming, even if it doesn’t intend to support the project with box office revenue. But for now, The first signs It concludes the franchise by transferring the storyline directly to the original classic.
