Thompson was selected by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Stephen F. Austin. The Arkansas native was initially Baylor He quickly became an impact player for the Lumberjacks before moving on to SFA in 2020.
In 2020, he recorded 8.5 tackles for loss and six sacks, followed by 12.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks in 2021. In 2022, his final season before entering the draft, Thompson recorded 23 tackles, five sacks and two forced fumbles.
At Baylor, he appeared in nine games with one start as a freshman, then appeared in 10 games while starting just two in 2018. He was second on the team with four sacks and added 5.5 TFLs and 15 tackles.
