Temperatures set to drop across Northern California over the weekend
Change is coming. You see the flag at Sutter Health Ballpark. The RiverCats are in the home stands. First pitch is 645 yards. You see the flag moving. It’s tilting toward the third base line. This indicates that Delta Breeze is joining today’s winds. But we need more cool air above it to bring the temperature down. With no coastal cool air to be dragged in by the Delta winds, the afternoon temperature is still warm at 95 degrees in the capital right now. It’s hot. 101 and 102 degrees in Stockton-Modesto, 100 and 102 degrees at Lake Tahoe football practice. Hopefully you were well hydrated on the field. It’s in the low 80s in Tahoe this time of day. The baseball forecast has temperatures warmer at first pitch in the low 90s.But the difference between last night and tonight is that if you’re at the ballpark, the temperature will drop a lot as we get closer to the end of the game, and a Delta Breeze will blow through and take temperatures down to the low 70s. Right now, Delta Breeze is holding steady at 17 degrees. Temperatures will drop a lot in Fairfield. But I’m going to give you a reason to turn off your air conditioner and open the windows or turn on your whole house fan tonight. Check the 12-hour forecast here. By about 9:00, temperatures will drop to the mid 70s. Then they’ll drop to the low 60s overnight. That’s better than the upper 60s to low 70s we’re in now. In the foothills not that close to Delta Breeze, temperatures are still pretty mild, but still a big change from 24 hours ago. 11:00 In foothills like Auburn, temperatures will drop from 77 degrees to the low 60s. I’ll be here with the weather forecast first thing Friday morning on Big View. Of course, we had a few showers in the Sierra yesterday. Now it will move north and northeast, bringing down areas like Shasta and the surrounding Tehama counties. Tomorrow will be sunny and partly cloudy in the mountains with temperatures in the low 80s, Truckee and Lake Tahoe at 87. Pollock Pines Arnold will have a high of 88, gradually dropping from the Sierra to the foothills. Jackson will still have a pretty warm day, but not as hot as Jackson’s 93. Auburn will have a high of 91 tomorrow, then move closer to the Bay Area. Take a look at these numbers. Fairfield will have a high of 82. Thanks in part to Delta Breeze Lakeport, it will be 93. If you’re heading to San Francisco this weekend, dress in layers. Tomorrow’s forecast is in the upper 60s. It will be even cooler over the weekend, continuing the overcast June feel even more. Lodi will start with highs in the 50s, rising to 94 on Friday.96 in Manteca, 97 in Modesto, 97 around Sacramento. It’ll be a comfortable start in the upper 50s to low 60s thanks to the Delta breeze, but Folsom and Roseville will easily warm up to the low 90s by tomorrow afternoon. Now let’s look at the weekend. We’ll drop down to the 80s on Saturday and Sunday. Still talking about the low 90s. All I can say is this: Enjoy the weekend. Get outside and enjoy the manageable heat. More heat next week. Might not be manageable. That’s right. You know, when it’s over 100, it’s kind of tough. Yeah. Al.
