Now back from spring break, all I can think about is the upcoming summer. I dream of no school, no adventures, and warm air. I almost obsess over what I’m going to do, where I’m going to go, and what I’m going to wear.
Every summer, new things emerge as trends. Last summer, various social media platforms featured countless trends such as Ella’s tour in the US last summer and season 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty. This summer, trends are emerging again with new trends.
First, digital cameras are all the rage. The 90s and early 2000s look is exactly what many people want. There are many different types, from real cameras to plastic ones, both of which look different but are beautiful. I myself have a digital camera, and have had one for years, but only started using it since spring break.
For things to do, there are crafts and activities that seem to trend on TikTok every day. The two biggest trends are bikini boxes and pickleball. Bikini boxes are a simple craft made of a wooden box and paint. Paint designs (mostly beach-inspired) on the outside of the box to create a beautiful storage box to hold bikinis and various other things. Pickleball is an increasingly popular activity that has become a new trend in the last few years. The idea of going to the courts to play pickleball is something people have decided to do quite a lot. Friends have been texting me about late-night pickleball games they are trying to plan. This beautiful and preppy activity is a great way to get off the couch this summer without having to run a full marathon.
When it comes to hairstyles, bobs are making a comeback. While not for everyone, bobs are a hot trend on TikTok for the summer. Short hair is easier to style and less likely to fly off when driving with the windows down or speeding around on a boat. Trending hairstyles include bubble braids, which have been popular for a while now, and countless other timeless styles.
When it comes to clothing, it’s hard to count all the trends because there are so many different styles. On my page, the Ralph Lauren American Flag Sweater is trending. Most people buy the cheaper knockoff version that is almost identical to the original. This sweater is a timeless piece with a simple, old-fashioned design, but with a subtle preppy vibe. It can be worn with any outfit, whether it’s a skirt, leggings, jeans, or shorts. Another trending piece of clothing is the maxi dress. This trend has continued for the past few months and through spring break. Maxi dresses are comfortable to wear and are the perfect piece to style up or down. They’re cute for any occasion, whether it’s a graduation party or a morning brunch. Many other styles are also making superficial changes, but it depends on whether you’re a coastal grandma, a preppy, or any other style you associate with.
