SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Defence (Mindef) has jumped on a trending video on TikTok, bringing a bit of fun to the usually serious Shangri-La dialogue.

The 18-second video, filmed at Singapore’s Shangri-La hotel, venue for the three-day defence summit, was posted to Mindef’s official TikTok account on Sunday (June 2).

The video, titled “Men in Defense,” had been viewed more than 1.2 million times and liked more than 100,000 as of Monday afternoon, and has been shared hundreds of times.

In the video, representatives from Oman, Singapore, New Zealand, Germany and China are seen dressed in uniform and posing for the camera.

The Mindef clip appears to be a spin on the type of music clips that have been trending on TikTok recently.

The version posted by girl_on_couch includes the lyrics, “Looking for finance, trust fund, man that’s 6’5”.

In Mindoff’s clip, the lyrics were changed to: “I’m looking for a man who wears a defense uniform, is five feet nine inches tall, has nice eyes.”

The video is part of Mindef’s video series featuring Shangri-La Dialogues, which took place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Another Mindef video, captioned “A quick peek,” showed the behind-the-scenes preparations for the forum.

This year’s summit brought together delegates from more than 45 countries, the video said.
