Three Florida Atlantic University departments recently participated in eMerge Americas in Miami Beach to showcase student innovation and entrepreneurship efforts in South Florida’s tech industry.
It was founded by Manuel Medina, a leading South Florida leader, innovator and business college graduate.
’74these 10Number The annual global tech conference and expo brings together business leaders, industry innovators and budding entrepreneurs for workshops, exhibitions and talks on the latest trends and technologies.
FAU’s School of Business, School of Engineering and Computer Science, Schmidt School of Medicine and Research Park all collaborated on a large booth showcasing various aspects of their research. This included displays and information on robotics, prosthetics and medical innovations. The School of Business also contributed to the event. “We are thrilled to be present with the College of Medical Engineering at eMerge Americas and to honor Manny and Melissa Medina for the decade of transformative work they have done to launch and support South Florida as a technology hub,” said Dr. Daniel Gropper, dean of FAU’s College of Business. “We are proud to partner together to further expand and strengthen the technology ecosystem across South Florida.”
Faculty and students were also well represented at the event: Along with Gropper, Dr. Curtis Whitehair, interim dean of the Schmidt School of Medicine, and Dr. Stella Batalama, dean of the School of Engineering and Computer Science, met with attendees to share more about FAU’s collaborative efforts.
Joseph Watson, a fourth-year business student, is one of 14 students from South Florida universities to be awarded eMerge Americas’ 2024 Rising Star Award for their talent and achievements. He also presented on a panel focused on future college graduates’ perspectives in Miami’s business environment.
