Florida State has four players in its 2025 recruiting class: five-star offensive lineman Solomon Thomas, four-star quarterback Tramell Jones Jr., four-star defensive end Javion Hilson and four-star linebacker Ethan Pritchard.
The coaching staff has been unable to secure a top prospect since January, when Hillson withdrew his commitment from Alabama and transferred to Florida State following the retirement of legendary head football coach Nick Saban.
The Seminoles have a combined record of 23-4 over the past two seasons, and the team is beginning to find sustainable success with freshmen pulling in. Having lost a freshman before Signing Day has left the fan base hesitant to sign a freshman.
That’s how college football recruiting works, as teenagers make the toughest decisions of their lives, but head coach Mike Norvell has a plan in place to try and land the best prospects that are a good fit for the Seminoles.
He’s not trying to acquire a lot of prospects just based on their star rankings. He understands that five-star prospects are foundational players. But not every prospect is going to be successful. He knows that all of these prospects are going to the Seminoles, but they haven’t produced any contracts yet.
However, On3’s Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong are reporting that Florida State is favored to recruit Josh Petty, a five-star 2025 offensive tackle prospect out of Fellowship Christian School in Roswell, Georgia.
It’s worth noting that Petty’s sister attends school in Tallahassee, which could make it an easier transition for the family. Petty is scheduled to take his official visit to the Seminoles the weekend of June 21, when more than 20 prospects will be on campus.
The coaching staff will be in full swing over the weekend. Offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins is considered one of the best scouts on the Seminoles’ coaching staff. Can he get Florida State to close a deal to acquire Petty?
