The U.S. Department of State will participate in GITEX Africa, the region’s largest emerging technology convention, in Morocco from May 28 to 31. As one of the U.S. Department of State’s many private sector development initiatives on the continent, the Coalition of Climate Entrepreneurs (CCE) partnership will participate in GITEX Africa to showcase the work of CCE startup incubation hubs in Ghana, Kenya, and Morocco.
On May 28, the U.S. Department of State, Emerging Business Factory, and Near East Foundation will co-host a Climate Startup Showcase on the sidelines of GITEX Africa under the Climate Entrepreneurs Coalition banner. The Climate Startup Showcase will connect climate-focused early-stage startups contributing to Africa’s green economy with potential investors. On May 29, the State Department’s Bureau of Global Partnerships, the U.S. Embassy to Morocco, and Microsoft Morocco signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at GITEX Africa to collaborate on supporting climate-focused entrepreneurship in Morocco.
On May 30, Thomas Debas, Chief Partnerships Officer at the U.S. Department of State, will speak at the GITEX panel, “Leveraging Emerging Technologies and Climate-Focused Entrepreneurship to Advance Sustainable Economic Prosperity in Africa,” and will be available to media throughout the week.
