Entrepreneurship plays a key role in the economic development of Greene County. For many years, entrepreneurs in our community have been one of the driving forces behind innovation, job creation and prosperity. Greene County has long recognized the importance of small businesses in the growth of our region, but in recent years, there has been a noticeable national trend to adopt entrepreneurship-driven economic development strategies that recognize the vital role that startups and small businesses play in driving sustainable growth.

The Greene County Development Corporation (GCDC) is a big supporter of this economic development strategy. In Greene County, nearly every large local business started as an entrepreneur. With this in mind, we are partnering with New Glarus Bank to host our Small Business Series and Pitch Competition for the second consecutive year. The Small Business Series aims to provide a comprehensive training program for small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. We hope to equip them with essential knowledge and skills to foster the next generation of successful businesses in our community. Over the course of five weeks, participants attended informative sessions covering various aspects of business development, including writing a business plan, fundraising, and marketing strategies. The program also facilitated networking opportunities, allowing participants to make valuable connections and receive support from their peers.

The Small Business Series represents GCDC’s commitment to entrepreneurship-driven economic development. GCDC believes that this approach can foster a vibrant ecosystem that nurtures and develops entrepreneurs, thereby fostering growth and improving the quality of life for all residents.
