Similarly, the report also found an increase in homeowners seeking help removing wallpaper (up 77% year-over-year) and carpeting (up 57% year-over-year), suggesting that many homeowners are looking to make a change. But what’s less well known is that more homeowners are prioritizing sustainability in their home improvement projects. Thumbtack specifically reports an increase in solar panel installations, timer-driven automatic sprinkler systems, lift-up windows, and other insulation upgrades to improve energy efficiency.

When it comes to help with general home maintenance, hiring a general handyman tops the list, suggesting that many homeowners are taking advantage of this season to finally get some household tasks done. One of the most pressing jobs on many people’s minds right now is making sure their air conditioner is in working order. Thumbtack reports that duct and vent repairs are up 112% year over year, while air conditioner repairs or maintenance are up a staggering 242% year over year. Similarly, window tinting, which is used to keep your home cool while saving energy, is up 48% year over year, and smart home installations or repairs (to keep your thermostat in good working order) are up 61% year over year.
