ROCHESTER, Minn. – Destination Medical Center announced $12 million in new investments in the community during its quarterly meeting on Thursday, May 23, and discussed progress on its 20-year mission with community leaders in a collaborative session.

The plan announced an investment of about $7 million in new housing in the Medical City, including a new residential facility at Civic Center North and a multigenerational housing project near Cascade Lake Park called West Transit Village, which will be the first of several new development projects to be built on the western edge of Rochester’s bus rapid transit system.

An additional $5 million was also committed to support renovations to the Downtown Historic District, accessibility improvements, new utilities and code changes.

During the initiative meeting this afternoon with city, county and other community partners, DMC and other attendees discussed updates on ongoing initiatives and projects, including the initiative’s 20-year mission, an update on Mayo Clinic’s “Bold, Advance, Unlimited, Expand” project, and city projects such as the new aquatics center at Soldiers Field.

Olmsted County Commission Chairwoman Sheila Kiskaden said she was glad to get an update from the community at the meeting.

“It’s really important that we have good communication with each other and have the opportunity to listen, learn together and ask questions,” Kiskadden said.

DMC officials also said they were optimistic that the initiative’s 20-year mission was half accomplished.

The initiative said it will consider the 2025 budget at its next meeting on September 26.
