Gas prices in central and central Kentucky are down 13 cents from last week, averaging $3.23 per gallon, ahead of Memorial Day weekend and the possibility of wet weather.
That’s according to the AAA East Central Gas Price Report, which says gas prices in the region from May 13 to May 19 were about $3.36 per gallon.
This is exactly the same price the region experienced a year ago.
The average price for unleaded self-serve gasoline is $3.05 in Owensboro, $3.15 in Elizabethtown, $3.17 in Paducah, $3.27 in Bowling Green and $3.50 in Louisville.
The national average price for a gallon of gasoline continues to trend downward, dropping 2 cents from last week to $3.59. The main reasons are weak domestic demand and oil prices below $80 a barrel. Today’s national average price is 8 cents lower than a month ago, but 5 cents higher than a year ago.
And for what seems like the first time in a while, most areas in western Kentucky are now at or below the state average of $3.35 a gallon. $3.29 in Trigg County, $3.24 in Christian County, $3.22 in Todd County, $3.19 in Muhlenberg County, $3.15 in Hopkins County, $3.29 in Caldwell County, $3.19 in Marshall County, $3.23 in Callaway County . The only one that comes close is his $3.35 in Ryan County.
At the close of trading last Wednesday, West Texas Intermediate rose 61 cents to settle at $78.87 per barrel.
