Carrillo’s video received more than 690 comments, some of which missed the influencer’s sarcastic humor or even mentioned sarcasm.
One commenter agreed with Mr Carrillo’s statement and said he took it at face value, saying: “When my foreign friends ask me what to do in Singapore, I always feel[at a loss].”
In response, another online user pointed out that Carrillo was being sarcastic.
Several others also made rude remarks about him, saying he should not be silent and make rude comments about Singapore. Some had suggestions for areas you could visit on your next trip here.
However, most commenters found Carrillo’s sarcasm funny and made jokes themselves.
“They were trying to attack,” one person said, seemingly trying to make the point that Singapore is not a boring place. Another joked that Mr Carrillo almost had “all of Singapore” angry with him.
One TikTok user welcomed Carrillo’s visit to Singapore, commenting, “Another sarcastic comment.”
In response to a question from TODAY, Carrillo said he thought his sarcasm was “obvious” as all the clips he used showed him having fun in Singapore.
“I also added so much information that I feel like people who don’t like Singapore probably wouldn’t have included it if they really didn’t like (the country),” she said, explaining Singapore’s cultural diversity. He said, citing his comments on the issue as an example. .
Carrillo admitted that he was “maybe a little too sarcastic” when talking about Singapore’s local food culture.
“Perhaps they could have said something like, ‘We don’t have a choice,’ introducing a variety of food options,” he lamented.
Despite this, Carrillo added that he is not upset that people misunderstood his humor. Rather, he is saddened that some Singaporeans who did not watch his video till the end might think that he hates Singapore.
“I hope this algorithm will remind you of the many other videos I have already produced about Singapore,” he said.
In another reply to a comment on his TikTok video, Carrillo said he plans to visit Singapore again in July.

A vlogger named Nina Gerhards explained why in the caption of her video, calling Singapore “the most boring country (I’ve ever been to).”
