LANSING — The Michigan Infrastructure Council (MIC) today announced the launch of the MIC Project Portal 2.0 (MiDIG). This innovative online tool revolutionizes infrastructure planning by facilitating collaboration between public and private infrastructure asset managers early in the project cycle and promoting a “dig once” approach. bring. This approach aims to minimize disruption and costs associated with infrastructure projects by coordinating the installation of various utility lines (broadband, water, energy) during a single construction cycle .

“MiDIG is a powerful new addition to Michigan’s infrastructure toolbox. This innovative platform allows us to improve our community’s critical needs, including repairing roads and bridges, improving stormwater management, and upgrading public facilities. It will make it easier and more affordable to complete projects,” said MIC Council Member Beverly Watts. “By working together today, we can build an infrastructure system that is sustainable for generations to come. MiDIG will be a key element in this work.”

MiDIG helps streamline infrastructure planning by providing a secure cloud-based platform for collaborative project management. This central repository integrates data from various sources (water, roads, etc.) and visualizes it on a geospatial map. MiDIG leverages advanced technologies such as geographic information systems (GIS), artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML) to enable planners to comprehensively monitor their projects. Through intelligent data analysis, MiDIG identifies potential conflicts and overlaps between projects early on, enabling proactive collaboration and mitigation strategies. This proactive approach minimizes delays and ensures cost-effective project execution.

“Modernizing the way infrastructure owners plan and coordinate capital construction projects will ensure they maximize their infrastructure investments once they dig,” said Palencia Mobley, PE, chair of MIC. says. Portals increase coordination and outcomes. ”

With the passage of the bipartisan Infrastructure Act (BIL), Inflation Control Act (IRA), CHIPS, and Science Act, Michigan has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to implement innovative infrastructure, climate, and economic development projects across the state. I have it in my hand. With MiDIG, you can stretch any infrastructure spend further and maximize return on investment for Michigan communities as you rebuild and strengthen your infrastructure for the future.

“Michigan is bringing home more than $10 billion to rebuild our infrastructure through President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, and we have an obligation to use these funds as efficiently and effectively as possible.” said Zachary Kolodin, Infrastructure Director and Director of the Michigan Department of Infrastructure. “MiDig will enable Michigan to implement a ‘Dig Once’ policy that synchronizes road, water and broadband infrastructure development to minimize disruption and save taxpayers money.”

In addition to MiDIG, MIC offers the Asset Management Champion Program. This free program is available to all infrastructure owners and aims to establish a network of individuals and organizations to help strengthen and “advocate” asset management best practices across Michigan’s complex infrastructure environment.
