Governor Tina Kotek signed the Emergency Housing Stability and Production Package (Senate Bill 1530, Senate Bill 1537) last week. Between this package and other recently signed bills, including the Oregon Drug Intervention Plan (House Bill 4002, House Bill 5204), lawmakers representing Marion and Polk Counties in the Oregon Legislature are seeking to address local emergency needs. We are celebrating the acquisition of more than $16 million in new funding to address needs. These investments will increase behavioral health treatment capacity, improve infrastructure to support housing development, and increase housing assistance for vulnerable communities.
Some of the major projects secured by legislators include:
– Develop centralized social services and resource centers within Family YMCAs of Marion and Polk Counties (over $3 million) – SB 5701
– Water, sewer and stormwater improvements for the Riddle Road development in the City of Monmouth ($1.2 million) – SB 1530
– Construction of Polk Community Development Corporation Sewer Infrastructure on Gun Club Road ($500,000) – SB 1530
– Affordable Veterans Housing Development in West Salem ($300,000) – SB 1530
Marion and Polk counties will also benefit from statewide investments in these key areas, including $9.7 million to support and expand specialty courts.
“Polk County has long needed critical infrastructure and affordable housing for our veterans,” said Rep. Paul Evans (D-Monmouth, Independent). “We look forward to seeing these investments make a positive difference in our community.”
