Summer is approaching and Nebraska Athletics is as busy as ever. From the football team to the baseball program, Husker Athletics seems to have a packed schedule. Even basketball teams, which have slowed down in recent weeks, are recruiting.

From baseball entering a critical period to football looking to bring even more talent to Lincoln, we look at it all in our Nebraska Athletics roundup.

Nebraska football makes big hiring move

Nebraska football has had a busy month in recruiting efforts. So far, quarterback TJ Lateef has only one commitment, but the program is trending to land some top targets. Michael Terry, David Sanders and Dawson Merritt have all expressed interest in joining the Nebraska football program.

Terry spoke highly of his visit to Nebraska, and Sanders said he was “shocked” by the visit itself. Meanwhile, Merritt is deciding between Nebraska and Alabama football. Detailed information on these recruitments can be found in our soccer recruitment roundup.

Nebraska basketball pushes elite transfer portal forward

Meanwhile, Nebraska’s basketball team is making strides of its own in recruiting. They are scheduled to visit UCLA forward Berk Buyuktunser on Thursday.

This is an interesting visit because Buyuktunser is a very talented person. He was ranked as a four-star recruit in high school and drew a lot of interest in his transfer portal. Nebraska basketball will have to make a strong push to compete for his services. Kentucky, Virginia, Cincinnati, Washington State, Ohio State, and Iowa State are just a few of the programs that have interest in him so far.

Buyuktuncel has already been busy this week, visiting BYU on Monday and Tuesday. A follow-up visit to Nebraska is currently not scheduled, according to a report from Husker Online’s Robin Washat.

This is certainly an interesting visit for Nebraska basketball. If he commits, he would give the program a versatile player with multiple years of eligibility. He can shoot from inside the paint and from beyond the arc. In that regard, he would be a perfect fit in Fred Hoiberg’s system. This is definitely a job that requires attention.

Nebraska baseball team heads to Michigan State for important series

Nebraska baseball begins its road trip Thursday night, as it had to play Michigan State for a conference series. The Huskers will send their ace to the mound in Thursday’s opener, with Brett Sears (7-0, 2.11 ERA) set to face Michigan State’s Joseph Dizerwa (6-2, 3.86 ERA). is. The opening game begins on Thursday. It starts at 5pm CT and is available to watch on B1G+.

This is an interesting series as it is a rematch of last year’s matchup in the Big Ten Tournament. Nebraska won by a 4-0 margin. The last time these two teams met in East Lansing was in 2021. They took two of his three games from Michigan State that year.

This game means a lot to Nebraska baseball right now. If the Huskers win and Illinois loses two games, they can clinch the regular season title. If Illinois wins three games and Illinois loses one, they can clinch a share of the championship. It also could clinch a share of the title if Illinois wins two games and Illinois loses two.

All in all, this is a huge weekend for Nebraska baseball. There’s a lot at stake and a lot to play for. This would also be a big step for coach Will Bolt, who has had a shaky tenure so far at Lincoln.
