By Jeff Sardy, District 5, Pinal County Supervisor
My comments regarding my support for a tourism project on private land at the end of Peralta Road have been published. This work is full of misinformation and contradictions.
Start with the statement, “I really wanted this project.” Yes, I have always been in favor of bringing tourism and amenities to our region. Since becoming a city councilor and then mayor, I’ve stood up to struggling restaurants like Hitching Post and fought the coronavirus lockdowns that have forced so many to close their doors. I have championed entrepreneurs and local businesses. In fact, one of the deciding factors in my decision to seek the county supervisor position was the refusal of my predecessor, who was trying to reopen the Mining Camp restaurant after a devastating fire. there were. When we lose such an institution, the entire region suffers a loss.
The second contradictory statement was that people initially voiced their opposition to the project, but then it was unopposed and approved. No one raised any objections. Because when they saw what the project really was, they clearly had enough insight to understand and were no longer naysayers.
Being a county supervisor is much more inclusive than just showing up to vote on meeting day and voting. It’s my responsibility to be aware of projects like this, especially since this project has been in the works for years, and my staff and I have already been briefed, taken tours, and raised concerns. We offered tours to those who were there. We were working in parallel to stabilize the area by addressing fencing, traffic, and other infrastructure…we were doing much more than saying yes or no. Ta.
Finally, as for the accusation that I appoint like-minded people to boards and committees? Well, of course I plead guilty to that. When people vote for a candidate, it is up to that official to live up to their promises and the ideas they voted for. You have to be a fool to surround yourself with people who work against you. Unfortunately, this seems to be the case with the authors of the aforementioned hits. Unfortunately, I removed her from her appointed position after suffering repeated negative comments, antagonism to my office, and hateful abuse directed at me on late night neighborhood pages. I had to.
