Two prominent Bay Area politicians were killed Friday night when their pickup truck collided with a car in rural San Diego County.

Hope Wood and his wife, Peggy Moore, were killed when a Jeep pickup truck collided with a Chrysler sedan around 11:15 p.m.

The Jeep was heading west on State Route 76 just past Horse Ranch Creek Road near the unincorporated community of Fallbrook when it collided with a sedan heading east, according to the San Diego County Coroner’s Office.

In addition to Wood and Moore, the drivers of both cars also died at the scene, but the other passenger in the Jeep survived.

Wood, 48, was the only person identified by the coroner, but social media posts by two colleagues and friends over the weekend indicated that the two died together in the accident. There is.

One post read: “We at the East Bay Stonewall Democratic Club are shocked to hear of the passing of former President Peggy Moore and her wife Hope Wood. Moore was a force for change in Oakland and the East Bay. It was written.

The post said Moore’s 25 years of political and organizing work were highlighted by his work to ensure and protect the rights of the LGBT community and communities of color.

Mr. Moore managed former Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf’s 2014 campaign, served as a senior consultant on Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton’s successful campaign, and worked on Hillary Clinton’s presidential primary in California. He served as the political director of the campaign.

She and Wood met during President Barack Obama’s campaign in 2008 and founded Hope Action Change, an organizational development consulting and coaching firm, in 2019, according to the company’s website.

“Together, they organized, changed hearts and minds, and helped build a world where freedom is no longer limited by the people you love,” posted U.S. Congresswoman Barbara Lee. “Both Peggy and Hope made an impact on our community, city, state and nation that will be felt for generations to come.”
