Rishi Sunak will deliver a pre-election address to voters who were hit hard by this month’s local elections.

The Prime Minister will say he has “bold ideas” that can “create a safer future” for Britons and restore “confidence and pride in our country”.

Speaking from London, he promised that if the Conservatives were re-elected, “more things will change in the next five years than in the last 30 years”.

Voters face tough choices about who should govern the country in a time of unprecedented global change and technological advancement, he would say.

He has touted his leadership in areas such as national security, and has pledged to raise defense spending to 2.5% of gross domestic product (GDP) by 2030, setting himself apart from the Labor Party over defense spending. I’ll aim for it.

This comes after his Conservative Party suffered a crushing defeat in the polls and fell behind Labor in local elections earlier this month.

Mr Sunak’s fears were compounded by the surprise defection of MP Natalie Elphike in protest of his record on housing and the suspension of small boat crossings.

Starmer under pressure to investigate Elphike’s ‘lobbying’ claims

Sir Keir Starmer is under pressure to investigate claims that Elphike “lobbied ministers to intervene in her husband’s case”.

Ms Elphike is said to have told Sir Robert that it would be unfair for her ex-husband’s case to be heard first at Southwark Crown Court after the coronavirus lockdown, which is being overseen by Mrs Justice Whipple. Sunday Times report.

Labor shadow minister open to welcoming more Conservatives

Shadow schools minister Catherine McKinnell said she would welcome more Conservatives into the Labor Party.

She told Sky News: “I think it’s really important that we’re not tribal about our politics and that we’re open to people approaching us about how we say our stuff and what we want to do.”

Prime Minister troubled by Nathalie Elphique’s defection

As Rishi Sunak prepares his speech, Natalie Elphike’s departure continues to haunt him.

But some Conservatives are using the move to criticize Labor for embracing the former Conservative Party.

Health Minister Maria Corfid said she believed voters saw Labor as “playing games”.

she said sky news: “I actually think it backfired on Labor probably more than anyone else.

“People will think Labor is playing games. As I said, as a government we’re busy tackling obesity, improving maternity care and rebuilding the economy, but last week’s The growth rate was 0.6%, higher than France, Germany and Spain.

“That’s what we’re focused on. The Prime Minister is going to talk about defense later today, while Labor is playing games over which MPs they can get across the floor.”
