(NewsNation) — NewsNation rode along with officials at the southern border to report on the situation on the ground like no other news network could.
An anonymous Border Patrol agent told a special edition of “Dan Abrams Live” that cartels, not the United States and its agents, “control the border.”
“Everything we do is a reaction to what they have planned,” the agent exclusively told NewsNation’s Ali Bradley. “Most of the time, we’re chasing pawns while the king and queen do what they want.”
The representative requested anonymity to avoid repercussions from the government.
“I’m scared to talk to the media because I’m scared of what the government will do. It’s obviously going to cost me my job, right? “I don’t want that,” the agent said.
“Our borders are never secure, and even if they were, we don’t have the personnel to deal with the situation that’s happening right now.”
The investigator also warned that law enforcement is “defunded and overwhelmed” and that “no one is going to protect you.”

NewsNation joins Border Patrol ‘brush team’
So-called “brush teams” help patrol the country’s southern border and have also popped up in the United States. Local law enforcement teams are searching areas of land where migrants sometimes hide or flee. If everything is coordinated correctly, Brush’s team will be in the right place at the right time to catch Brush’s team on the run.
NewsNation’s Ali Bradley joined the Brush Team across the southern border to see law enforcement efforts to catch immigrants who entered the United States without authorization. People are fleeing other countries, many avoiding legal crossings into the United States. In some cases, they may receive assistance from cartels.

‘Smuggler’s Highway’: A look back at the border’s popular migrant routes
Local police have been cracking down on the highway that connects Arizona and California, nicknamed the “smuggler’s highway,” and a hotspot for people smuggling from the southern border to Phoenix.
Sheriff’s deputies in Pinal County, Arizona, say cartels aren’t just smuggling immigrants, they’re also trying to make money off American citizens.
The so-called “smuggler’s highway” runs straight from the U.S.-Mexico border to Phoenix, and from there connects all of California. As a result, Pinal County authorities established anti-smuggling units along the route.
