LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — May is Small Business Month. This is an opportunity to support and celebrate the contribution of small businesses to society.
Small businesses and startups not only drive America’s economy, they also help sustain the American Dream.
Las Vegas native Sherita Rogers is the owner of two small businesses in the Valley.
After years of climbing the corporate ladder and working in government, she said it was time to turn her dream of being her own boss into a reality, focusing on event design and decoration and corresponding desserts. Founded The Exquisite Company. work.
“Entrepreneurship runs in my family, and it was destined to be,” Rogers said. “But I’m a mother of three young children and a (wife), so I wanted to spend more time with my children.”
Both companies offer customized event planning services, from customized set-up and decorations to hand-crafted gourmet treats. She said the idea to include desserts in her business plan was inspired by her sister, who passed away more than a year ago.
“She was actually my inspiration,” Rogers said. “We started by making caramel corn, which led to puff corn, and we were just having fun baking together. And I always thought, ‘I have to do more of this, let’s turn it into a business.’ .
A few months later, Rogers received his business license.
“It’s really special. Now every time I bake I think of her and I hear her voice. I hear different things she would say,” Rogers said. I did. “That’s why I called it ‘My Sister’s Sweets,’ because in fact all of my recipes come from her.”
Ms. Rogers said she is grateful to be among the brave go-getters in our community who use their gifts and talents to serve others. She also thanks the community for its continued support of local businesses like hers.
“It’s really important that we stay together as a community and support each other and understand that small businesses are essential,” Rogers said.
