Former President Donald Trump’s youngest son is in the political spotlight.
The Florida Republican Party has selected Barron Trump (18) as an at-large delegate to the Republican National Convention to be held in Milwaukee this July. The news, first reported by Politico and NBC, underscores that the Trump family will once again play a key role in clinching the Republican presidential ticket with his father’s third consecutive nomination.
Mr. Barron is scheduled to graduate from high school next week, but the former president was scheduled to skip the graduation ceremony before Judge Juan Marchan granted a suspension of Mr. Trump’s Manhattan criminal trial.
Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump are also part of the delegation. Trump’s youngest daughter, Tiffany Boulos, and her husband, Michael, are also members of Congress. Trump Jr.’s fiancée, former Fox News host Kimberly Guifoil, rounds out the list.
Conspicuous absences were Ivanka Trump, the former president’s eldest daughter, and former White House senior adviser Jared Kushner. She said Trump, who also served in the Trump administration, would stay out of her father’s efforts to retake the White House.
Much of the Trump family, like the former president, currently resides in Florida. Trump easily won the Sunshine State’s primary and 125 delegates. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, once Mr. Trump’s biggest opponent, dropped out of the race and endorsed Mr. Trump long before Floridians headed to the polls.
President Joe Biden has vowed to compete in Florida this year, but the state is increasingly moving away from its battleground state roots.
